Strengthening GBV Prevention and Response in Cameroon’s Conflict-Affected Regions.
On 14 June 2026, our Co-Founder and CEO, Dr. Hedwig Akum Ngwa, proudly represented NIMO Care Association at a strategic training workshop held at the Women’s Empowerment Centre in Buea. The training focused on the development of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for Gender-Based Violence (GBV) Prevention and Response in the North-West and South-West (NWSW) conflict-affected regions of Cameroon. The workshop brought together representatives from over 50 women-led organizations, reflecting a strong collective commitment to improving coordination, service delivery, and survivor-centered approaches in GBV prevention and response. We are honored that NIMO Care Association was selected as one of only eight organizations to serve on the GBV SOP Reference Group, which will support the review and finalization of the draft SOPs. This selection is a testament to our organization’s dedication to promoting protection, dignity, and access to quality services for vulnerable populations. We are equally proud that Dr. Hedwig Akum Ngwa was nominated to lead the South-West team in this important assignment, demonstrating confidence in her leadership, expertise, and commitment to advancing GBV programming in the region. The training was conducted within the framework of the project “Women eh! Wuna Place Dey”, funded by UNFPA, GIZ, the European Union (EU), and BMZ. The workshop was organized by TeenAlive Association and WACAMEROON and facilitated by UNFPA. NIMO Care Association extends its sincere appreciation to the organizers, facilitators, development partners, and fellow women-led organizations for their invaluable contributions to this critical initiative. Through collaboration and shared expertise, we are taking meaningful steps toward strengthening protection systems and ensuring effective, coordinated, and survivor-centered GBV services in Cameroon. Together, we continue to champion safer communities, amplify women’s voices, and contribute to sustainable peace and resilience in the North-West and South-West regions.
