Celebrating International Women’s Day Through Education

On the 11th of March 2026, Nimo Care Association carried out an interactive discussion session with members of the Gender, Environment and Education Club at GBHS Great Soppo. The activity brought together 13 female students for a friendly and engaging conversation in celebration of International Women’s Day.

The session started with a brief explanation of the meaning of International Women’s Day and the theme for this year. The students were guided to understand why the day is celebrated around the world and the importance of promoting gender equality so that girls and women can have equal opportunities in education, leadership, and decision-making.
During the discussion, the facilitators also talked with the students about adolescence and sexual and reproductive health. The students were encouraged to understand the changes that happen during adolescence and the importance of making informed and responsible decisions. Issues around early pregnancy were discussed, including its possible effects on a girl’s education, health risks, and how it can limit future opportunities.

The session also covered sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) such as HIV/AIDs, Syphilis, Chlamydia, etc. Also, transmissible diseases like Hepatitis B were also addressed, and students were educated on how these infections are transmitted and ways to prevent them, including abstinence, practicing responsible behavior, and the importance of regular health testing.
Another important topic discussed was menstrual hygiene. The students were encouraged to maintain proper hygiene during their menstrual cycle and to feel confident and comfortable discussing menstrual health.

The facilitators also spoke about respect and consent in relationships, emphasizing the need for mutual respect and the right of every girl to make decisions about her own body. In addition, gender-based violence in schools was discussed, and the students were encouraged to speak up and seek help if they ever experience or witness any form of violence.
The discussion was very interactive, with the students asking questions and sharing their thoughts and experiences. Overall, the activity helped to increase the students’ understanding of gender equality, health, and their rights as young girls.

Nimo Care Association remains committed to supporting young people with knowledge and guidance that will help them make safe and positive choices for their future.
